Gorgeous Destination Wedding in the Isle of Skye, Scotland
Wedding photography in the Isle of Skye
I'm so excited and looking forward to photographing this dream-come-true destination wedding in Scotland.
Visiting the Isle of Skye has been on my list of many things to do.
I am so grateful that this couple has booked me to photograph their fantastic wedding at Eilean Donan Castle.
Destination wedding in Scotland
I am now on board the train taking me to Kyle of Lochalsh. I'm not even sure how to pronounce this very Scottish name!
My adventure started in London on the Caledonian Sleeper last night, heading to Inverness in Scotland. Yes, I treated myself to a luxurious first-class overnight train and loved it every minute. After many years of living in London, this is my first time in Scotland, and I wish I knew about this beautiful country. I dislike travelling by plane, as it is so complicated and impersonal. So, here we go a 12-hour journey overland.
I'm here because the lovely couple Fatima and Kipp booked me to cover their wedding in the most remarkable place, a real Scottish castle, apparently described as the most romantic too. I was recommended to them by Nathan from the London bespoke tailor company Tweed Addict. Unconventional, unusual weddings are what I love the most. Travelling, discovering, meeting new people, and seeing new places is the exciting part of my job. Of course, it's not always so glam. There are stressful moments, long hours of editing, and sometimes difficult situations, but exploring new countries is definitely something that I really love.
The journey by train from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh is a breathtakingly scenic route around Scotland's beautiful land. I must make a point to come back here because the scenery is surreal, enigmatic, and magical.
Eilean Donan Castle wedding
This afternoon I spent a few hours at Eilean Donan Castle. The castle is privately owned, and taking pictures inside is forbidden, so it's an honour to be the only one to record this memorable day. I always do a recce before the big day.
Eilean Donan Castle was originally built in 1220 on the rocky tidal island of Loch Duich. It was literally destroyed in an awful battle. A 28-year restoration started in 1912. It is accessible from the mainland by a causeway and bridge. The location and the castle are breathtaking. This is why it has been used in many films.
The wedding ceremony
The ceremony will take place in the beautiful banqueting room, the largest in the castle. Following the ceremony, there will be a champagne reception in the billeting room. Weddings are only allowed after 6:30pm during the castle's tourist season. But, as we are very north, and in the summer, the sun sets at 10pm, so there is plenty of light for photography.
The wedding day
The day is sunny and beautiful. Fatima and Kipp are getting ready for the wedding. The guests will be arriving very soon at the castle. Respecting local tradition, the bagpiper walks them to the court by the bridge. The ceremony is short, so we have plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful castle and take pictures of the surroundings. The reception will be held on the Isle of Skye, at Toravaig House Hotel. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the guests are very friendly. I really feel like part of the family. Fatima and Kipp wanted to keep everything simple and enjoy the special day with a small group of family and friends. The ceremony was intimate, and the landscape was just so beautiful. There is no first dance, but they cut the cake. It feels extraordinary, almost like Christmas with the family.
I just want to wish Fatima and Kipp a wonderful life together. They are extraordinary, and this beautiful wedding will forever stay with me.
