Suppose you're wondering how the wedding ceremony rooms will translate into your wedding photos and which one to choose. In that case, I've prepared a mini guide based on my experience photographing weddings at this London Wedding venue.
Seven unique ceremony rooms are available, and ceremonies are conducted Monday to Sunday.
The Council Chamber
Climbing the grand marble staircase brings you to the heart of Islington Town Hall is the Council Chamber. This inviting, pet-friendly space is a delightful blend of history and charm, boasting a magnificent vaulted ceiling, beautiful stained-glass windows, and a striking red carpet to welcome you. The bespoke red leather and oak pews, adorned with intricately carved wood panelling, confirm the room's heritage. Despite its grand scale, the seating arrangement maintains an intimate vibe, making it an ideal setting for ceremonies of any size. Hosting up to 85 guests on weekends and 50 on weekdays, the Council Chamber is a true gem within the Town Hall's historic tapestry.
Photo Tip: At the top of Islington Town Hall is the Council Chamber, which has an impressive vaulted ceiling, exquisite stained-glass windows, a red carpet, and a horseshoe seating layout. I would use a wide-angle lens to capture the full splendour of this room.
For natural-looking photos, I would embrace the soft natural light of the vaulte. I love favouring soft lighting for winter ceremonies.
The Mayor's Parlour
A distinctive space at the Town Hall, The Mayor's Parlour can host up to 4 guests. Adorned with hand-painted stained glass windows, oak panelling, and opulent furnishings in classic red leather and velvet, this room radiates a unique charm.
Having served as the ceremonial office of the Mayor of Islington for many years, this historical room is available for booking on Fridays and Saturdays with the permission of the Mayor. The centrepiece of the room is the intricately carved fireplace featuring the Islington crest, creating a meaningful backdrop for your wedding vows. The mayoral robes, tricorn hat, and diplomatic gifts from around the world are displayed within, adding to the room's rich history.
The Mayor's Parlour is the perfect choice for those seeking an intimate ceremony within a grand setting. Its capacity is designed for 4 guests, making it a perfect space for an exclusive and personal celebration.
This room holds a special place in my heart, it's secretly my favourite at Islington Town Hall. I genuinely believe you'll fall in love with the unique charm it brings to any ceremony.
The Richmond Suite
The Richmond Suite is a timeless setting with a traditional aisle layout, capturing the grandeur of the Town Hall's 1920s design. Initially, Art Deco features to create a perfect backdrop for your special day.
Ideal for any couples, the room features oak panelling, high ceilings with intricate details, and a beautifully adorned fireplace showcasing dried flower displays. Ceremonies in the Richmond Suite are available on Saturdays, excluding the second Saturday of each month when reserved for other functions. The room can host up to 60 guests, providing an excellent space for a charming celebration.
Room 99
The most popular ceremony room at Islington Town Hall, Room 99, is a bright, airy space that perfectly complements the building's elegance. Recently refurbished with a relaxed mid-century vibe, it boasts a simple yet stylish oak, grey, and white decor.
The room features eye-catching parquet floors, a lovely oak mantelpiece, and a central circular mirror, creating a focal point that adds character. Large windows flood the room with natural light, and three elegant Italian chandeliers create a romantic atmosphere.
Pet-friendly and adorned with seasonal dried flower displays, Room 99 offers a comfortable and charming setting. The beautiful velvet chairs add a touch of luxury to the space. The room can have up to 20 guests, ideal for an intimate ceremony, making it a perfect choice for a stylish and relaxed modern celebration.
Photo Tip: Islington Town Hall's Room 99 is a fantastic choice for wedding photography. Its high ceilings and abundant natural light create an ideal setting for capturing relaxed and natural wedding photos. The oak, grey, and white colour scheme, with Italian chandeliers, adds a touch of sparkle and sophistication. The parquet floors, oak mantelpiece, and circular mirror provide a stunning backdrop for documentary wedding photography.
The pet-friendly atmosphere, complemented by seasonal dried flowers and velvet chairs, creates a sense of warmth and elegance. Room 99 is one of my favourite ceremony rooms for creating memorable wedding photographs. A word of advice: be mindful of the wooden wall hangers near the entrance, as they can be distracting in photos.
The Canonbury Suite
Crafted to capture the essence of the Town Hall's heritage with a touch of modern romance, the Canonbury Suite offers a beautiful and pet-friendly environment.
Enhanced by wood-panelled walls, plush velvet furniture, and carefully curated décor in gold, teal, and powder pink, this room exudes a charming atmosphere. The space's centrepiece is the stunning original Crittal stained glass window, meticulously restored to its 1920s splendour.
With its intimate and bijou setting, the Canonbury Suite is an ideal backdrop for weddings at Islington Town Hall. Whether planning a city elopement, a relaxed prelude to a more significant wedding celebration, or an elegant gathering with your closest loved ones, this suite offers versatility and style. The exceptional value it provides, set within the beautiful surroundings of the Town Hall, has contributed to its widespread popularity. The Canonbury Suite comfortably accommodates the wedding couple and two witnesses.
Statutory Room
Reserved solely for residents of Islington and the City of London, offers a unique space for those desiring the simplicity of a no-frills marriage or civil partnership.
These exclusive ceremonies occur only on Monday mornings and are specifically designed for couples residing in Islington or the City of London. Please be aware that you will be asked for evidence of your residency to ensure your eligibility for this particular room.
With a capacity tailored for two adult witnesses, the Statutory Room provides an intimate and straightforward setting for your legal union in the heart of this historic venue.
The Angel Suite

This beautiful room presents a fresh and stylish canvas for weddings at Islington Town Hall. As a counterpart to the Canonbury Suite, this beautiful room echoes the charm of wood-panelled walls, plush velvet furniture, and carefully curated décor in gold, teal, and powder pink.

Anterooms
If you can add a touch of elegance to your unique day experience with the new Town Hall anterooms. These beautiful spaces, available for booking, provide an ideal haven for relaxation, photography, or those final moments of preparation before your wedding ceremony.
Reserve one of the suites as an anteroom, arriving early to unwind as a couple or with your closest friends. These exquisite rooms seamlessly blend the Town Hall's heritage with a romantic modern twist, featuring wood-panelled walls, luxurious velvet furniture, and carefully curated décor in gold, powder pink, and teal.
Situated just inside the Town Hall entrance, these anterooms are bathed in natural light, offering a tranquil atmosphere. Complete with a dressing table and a full-length mirror, they provide the perfect space for those finishing touches upon your arrival. With a maximum occupancy of six people, these reserved spaces are exclusively available to booked wedding couples, ensuring a private and intimate experience.
Please note, that eating or drinking is prohibited, and there is no alcohol licence here.
