FUN GAY WEDDING IN ISLINGTON

This lovely couple of two grooms, Paul and Richard, found me on Google when searching for a Gay-friendly wedding photographer in London. I photographed their engagement on the Southbank along the river Thames. It was the Festival of Love, an event where all couples, gay, straight, young and old, could get married on the stage of the iconic Royal Festival Hall in London.

FUN CHRISTMAS WEDDING

Their wedding, a beautiful Christmas affair, was celebrated at the iconic Islington Town Hall on 20 December. A glorious grade II listed building that has retained much of its art deco interior. The Council Chamber, where the ceremony took place, is a large room filled with natural light thanks to the glass dome. It is located in front of the impressive Town Hall's marble staircase.

I loved every minute of this wedding – fun, emotional and happy, with so much Love. The Christmas spirit was everywhere: smiling faces, twinkling lights, and dancing people. A "make me feel good" atmosphere elevated everybody's spirit – the ceremony on a bright sunny winter day, the go-around London double-decker tour bus, the colourful gastro pub in Holborn, The Square Pig – everything in this wedding was just perfect. Ah! I nearly forgot the grand finale, the hilariously funny Drag Queen. Absolutely amazing.

This wedding really put me into a festive mood. The lovely Paul and Richard were so emotional that happy tears were contagious amongst the guests, including myself.

Tell me please about your wedding.

We were married in Islington Town Hall in the Council Chamber; due to the seats being in the round, each of our guests had a full view no matter where they were sitting. It was nerve-wracking as all the eyes were on us. We asked three of our closest friends and family to do readings, which was a great way to have them involved in the ceremony. Our three nieces and nephews acted as flower girls and page boys and looked adorable in matching outfits.

We hired an old London Routemaster Bus to take us and our guests on a sightseeing tour of London (which doubled as our drinks reception) and on to the Square Pig and Pen for a meal and party. We were lucky enough to hire the whole pub for our reception and pick all the decorations and table settings, which made it very personal. A particular highlight was our penguin wedding cake and our evening entertainment - a DJ and Miss Tiffaney Wells – a fabulous drag queen. South Africa is our honeymoon destination, which is part of the 'bucket list'.

It is great to think that children born today will never know a time when it wasn't legal to marry an LGBTQ person. Richard and Paul
