Intimate Riverside Wedding Photos at York House, Twickenham
The wedding couple
The bride and groom, Harriet and Joe are a fun relaxed couple deeply in love. I was so fortunate to photograph their wedding and get to spend the day with their family and friends.
After the ceremony at York House, in Twickenham, they celebrated at the nearby Gastro Pub The Royal Oak.
The wedding venue
York House in Twickenham near Richmond is basically at my doorstep as I’m based in Wimbledon.
So, after Harriet and Joe booked me to photograph their wedding, I decided to visit the venue with my daughter Siena.
I remember looking around and telling her how beautiful the surrounding was.
York House is a 17th-century building sitting in a magnificent garden with fountains and statuary, only five minutes from the River Thames.
This is what the wedding couple have shared with me
Tell me a little bit about yourselves
Joe is a Graphic Designer, and Harriet is a Primary School Teacher. We originally met at a music festival in Croatia- we were actually at different consecutive festivals on the same island. Our friends went to meet each other, and Joe and Harriet were there too. We spoke only briefly and became friends on Facebook. When we returned Harriet started working in a café which was down the road from Joe’s house. He used to come into the café often- half for the food and half to see me. One night we bumped into each other and got talking. We started seeing each other soon after that. On leap day 2020 Harriet asked Joe to marry her and he said, “are you serious?” Followed by a yes.
How important today’s event is for you and why have decided to do it in Twickenham?
Our wedding day was particularly important because Harriet’s dad has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. We wanted to get married in the summer of 2022 but had not yet made a plans but we decided to get married immediately as we wanted him to be there.
The best part of the day?
Joe’s favourite parts of the day were when Harriet appeared beside him after walking down the aisle and dancing with his mum at the end of the night. Harriet loved the whole day but especially her father’s speech.
It was amazing to have so many of our family and friends in the same room and lovely to watch them all interacting with one another, especially as so many people had travelled so far to spend the day with us
How have COVID-19 restrictions affected you?
Covid restrictions meant that we could not have all the people we wanted at our wedding, however, most of our wedding would have been the same regardless as we were more restricted by the amount of time we had to plan the wedding.
Anything else you would like to share with us? Like for example how much your friends and family helped you to organise the day?
Our friends and family were so supportive, helping us with much of the organisation. Especially our friend Jodie whose family own Flower Connection UK, who created the flowers for us with very little guidance. Also, Joe’s cousin Lee made the cake topper with very short notice.
Dear Paola,
Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so glad we had you there to capture our special day.
