Asylum Chapel Wedding Photography
As an alternative wedding photographer based in London, I am so happy to share this incredible wedding at one of my favourite alternative wedding venues, The Asylum Chapel.
Asylum Chapel Alternative Wedding venue
Caroline Garden’s Chapel in Peckham, also known as the Asylum Chapel, is a venue that was on my bucket list of incredible places where I wanted to photograph weddings for a long time. Everything in this venue is incredibly inspirational.
The Chapel, Grade II listed, was initially built for the use of Caroline Garden’s residents. But it is nowadays open to the public. It is often used for exhibitions, film shooting, weddings and alternative events in general. I particularly love the lightning, with the sense of drama filling the atmosphere.
After Ceremony Refreshments
After the ceremony, the couple had arranged for a vintage tea service to serve teas and coffees to guests. I love capturing these moments in photos as they tell the story of your wedding day. I work unobtrusively, blending in with guests and not using flash. This helps me create candid photos throughout the wedding day.
The relaxed wedding couple, Lucy and Dan, were gorgeous on many levels. I adore the bride, Lucy's beautiful yellow dress from Belle & Bunty was an exciting and unusual choice. I often wonder why brides-to-be feel the need to wear white or off-white at their weddings. It would be so incredible if they would dare to go bold and colourful like Lucy!
The after-wedding celebration was at the same venue
Pots of fresh tea were offered in vintage china at the back of the Asylum Chapel after the wedding, with homemade cakes and delicious sandwiches. All served to perfection by the Vintage Sisters Catering Company. They specialise in afternoon tea and catering with a distinctive nostalgic, retro style. I have known Lorna, the owner, for a long time, and it always mesmerises me how beautiful she looks in her 1940s-inspired wartime clothes.
wedding Photography Style
Whilst a lot of the photos on your wedding day would be natural and candid, more of a documentary style, , I love creating fun portrait photos using interesting parts of the wedding venue. Photos like these can be printed and framed after the wedding day, and displayed on the walls of your home to bring back memories of your wedding day.
I know now how different my wedding would be if I was to get married again. So many unique and fun ways and inspiring ideas. I absolutely love when people get creative and adventurous.
Unique venues like this are perfect for unusual weddings.
