Questions to ask your wedding photographer before the booking

Two Brides just married

Hello,

Lovely to see you here. Are you getting married and feeling overwhelmed by the whole experience? Please don’t worry. I’m here to help.

I am Paola, a wedding photographer based in London. I have many years of experience, and I, too, felt confused when I started planning my own wedding.

To help you, here are some simple questions you could ask your wedding photographer before the booking. I will not number the questions in order of importance. I will leave that to your personal preference.

• Can we see some reviews from previous clients?

Yes, this is something I would definitely ask my wedding suppliers. Reading what previous couples say about their experience can help put everything in perspective.

• Can you explain your booking system?

After an initial call with my clients, I always explain the booking method. I keep it very simple and transparent.

• What happens if you’re not well?

This is a question that the Pandemic has made very popular. Most of the wedding photographers I know belong to emergency groups. We always help each other. There is a very safe net in place.

• Ask your wedding photographer about insurance? Personally, I don’t think I have met any photographer in the UK that doesn’t have insurance.

• Can my family and friends take pictures at the wedding?

This is a very personal choice. Every photographer will have a different policy in place. There is no right or wrong. It’s just a matter of preference.

• Will my wedding pictures be shared on blog posts and social media?

This is a question that many couples that have asked me. Please understand that as a wedding photographers, we can only show what we can do via our images. But, of course, everyone has the right to privacy. Just check with the photographer first.

Oh, one of my favourite questions to you is this:

• Do you feel connected with the photographer?

If your gut feeling is correct, the photographer you are considering is the one. They are not set regulations. Follow your heart and forget about the money if you can. Photographers are creators and artists, all very different and unique. Ask questions. Many questions, talk, talk and talk. You will know if they’re right for you.

I hope these questions will help you to choose your wedding photographer easier.
